A Critique of A Creative Resume: Dear

Creative Resume Critique: To
balance the rest of the resume with the photo’s vibrant look, I
chose a dark ivory color to replace the standard white. On
your photograph, I “floated” your name and the tag
“Personal Trainer.” At a glance, a hiring manager can
easily see your direction. Directly
beneath the photograph, I listed your specialties - “Strength
& Resistance Training, Flexibility, Cardiovascular Workouts,
etc.” Because
of your solid professional experience, I chose to list that next,
rather than your education. In
the Professional Experience section, I began each bulleted sentence
with the strongest action verb possible, while also revising text for
clarity, conciseness, and maximum impact. Creative Resume Critique: For
example: In your email to ResumeEdge, you wrote: “Worked with
athletes who were hoping to make the cut for the Olympics. Trained
mostly those students who were talented in gymnastics and weight
lifting. Assisted Mr. Karansky, my employer and owner of the training
center, with those athletes.” I
revised and condensed that to read: §
Assisted Mr. Karansky in preparing Olympic hopefuls for the gymnastics
and weight lifting events. This
revision is to-the-point and presents your data in a professional
manner - exactly what hiring managers want. I
next listed your Education, placing both degrees beneath the single
heading of “California State University.” Creative Resume Critique: The
resume ends with your contact data. You’ll notice your phone
number is larger than your physical address. The reason for this is
that hiring managers generally contact you by phone first, email
second, and rarely, if ever, snail mail. Therefore, the increased font
size makes the data easier to read and far more accessible. During
our phone conversation, you also made mention that you might want to
use your resume as a flyer to increase your client list. Keeping that
in mind, I designed the final document so that it could be used as a
resume or as marketing material. All
decisions to modify data were in keeping with the guidelines and
standards set forth by the Professional Association of Resume Writers
(PARW). With
this resume you now have a powerful tool that’s well organized
and filled with pertinent data, while also being aesthetically
compelling. It
